  8. biorhythmic batting slumps, perfect games -- and Orel Hershiser
  9. IV. Hershiser, at least, can explain himself. The Dodger
  10. pitching sensation does just that in Out of the Blue, his
  11. best-selling memoir of the 1988 baseball season. Says he:
  12. "Admittedly I have a funny name, in a baseball uniform I appear
  13. to have no chest, and my long arms and legs don't evidence my
  14. strength." Success, he says, stems in part from the mysteries
  15. of faith. "Being a Christian is no excuse for mediocrity." The
  16. Bible, after all, is a best seller too.
